The Distance challenge events

WALX have joined forces with a local charity to create two stunning challenge distance events specifically for Nordic Walkers and walkers which have grown into  legendary routes for enthusiasts from around the world. Organised by an expert event management team these events are over 27  or 16 miles, timed, have route marshalls and although they are a massive part of the Festival weekend, it is necessary to register separately in order to make sure you have all the info and a number etc.

Those with 3 day festival passes can simply purchase a top up pass if they want to tackle these iconic routes which take place on Saturday 17th September. If you just want to test yourself over the routes, you can buy a CHALLENGE ONLY PASS which does give access to HUB on Saturday evening too. For passes Click HERE

Come and enjoy spectacular scenery and camaraderie as you challenge YOURSELF to tackle these iconic routes along the Coastal paths and wild terrain of the Isle of Purbeck. Whilst there are medals and T shirts for all finishers, these events are not all about speed or racing so feel free to take part as a group or to go it alone.

You will walk along cliff tops, through country parks, past stunning coves and through lost villages. Views of Castles, steam railways, lighthouses and breath taking scenery will make up for the tough parts where you will be climbing or descending the chalk ridges to define the area which is a World heritage site.

The challenges are not lead walks so if you do enter, it’s a good idea to attend the briefing on Friday evening, read all the info below and to make sure you train for the events. We can provide a training plan.

Go on challenge yourself and think how good it will feel when you cross the finish line and can head back to the Hub and relax on the hay bales and listen to some live music!

MORE HELPFUL INFORMATION

Numbers and Chips

All numbers and chips will need to be collected before event day

You will be able to collect your number and chip from the Hub in Corfe Castle from Thursday 15th September between 4pm to 7pm or on Friday the 16th Sept from 8am to 8pm.

If you are unable to make these times please contact us on 0333 12345 40 or arrive early on the day as we will take any uncollected challenge passes to the start.

Chip Timing Mats

There will be mats to register your chips at the start, Tyneham, Corfe Castle and at the finish. It is essential that you walk over these as they are there not only to time you but to ensure that we know who is out on the course.

Directions to Swanage

Swanage is reached by one of two routes;

  • Toll Ferry from Sandbanks (£3.50 per car incl passengers), along Ferry Rd and the B3351, through Studland Village and then take the left onto Ulwell Rd, signposted Swanage or
  • From Wareham, take the A351 heading south through Corfe Castle (passing the festival HUB where you can collect your number form 4 pm on Thursday) and Harmans Cross.

Parking

There is no specific parking for event participants; however there are several public pay car Parks which are close to the start and finish – Click HERE for charges and directions.

All proceeds for Challenge passes are paid to the Challenge organisers who are responsible for all those who take part in the event. Whilst we work in partnership , the Purbeck WALX festival organisers are not responsible for the route or organisation of the challenges. No refunds on Challenge passes can be authorised after August 15th.
