Walk Description:

Smugglers, Ice Creams and the Burley Beacon!

This week our afternoon walk starts at Smugglers, the old route for smugglers taking ther contraband that they purloined from Christchurch to Burley and beyond.

Skirting the edge of Burley across the heath, past Burley Beacon, Slap Bottom (yes, really!) we then drop down to the edge of Burley, briefly stopping at the Cider Pantry for a welcome ice cream!

Castle Hill Lane then beckons as we wind our way past some of the most magnificent houses in Burley, tucked away in this very picturesque location before returning to Smugglers.

Our Saturday Strider Walks are of a longer duration than those during the week and can be either in the morning or afternoon, or sometimes all day and are for all walkers, Nordic and non-Nordic!!

These walks are for those who are confident with walking at a good pace and can tackle hills without too much trouble. If you are not a Nordic Walker then please do come along and join us (you will still need to register and book as usual).

The walks are not suitable for those starting out on their fitness journey or who require regular breaks. Please contact Janet if you need more information as to whether this walk is for you.

Please Note:

There are no gates or stiles. There will be a small section walking on pavements so paws for your poles are a good idea.  There is a very real possibility of encountering New Forest grazing livestock such as ponies, cows and donkeys. Parts of the route follow paths where seasonal springs can suddenly appear after rain even in the summer so please wear appropriate footwear.  Dogs are welcome but please make sure you are confident and safe with dogs on a lead when using poles and around livestock. Please make sure you have filled out a dog disclaimer form from Janet before bring Fido.
