Walk Description:
THE WEDNESDAY OPEN NORDIC WALK:
Trek to Whitten Pond!
On Wednesday afternoons we do a longer moderate-paced Nordic Walk exploring the beautiful areas of the western New Forest, where non Nordic Walkers are welcome to come along and see what it's all about.
Join us for a two-hour adventure walk this week on the heaths and hills around Burley, crossing the Castleman Trailway to reach Whitten pond, a watering hole popular all year round with local ponies. We will then return either via the Castleman trailway so that anyone who wishes can get up a real speed in gear 3 (Nordic walkers). Or not!
This is an open walk which means that anyone can come - both Nordic and non-Nordic walkers - that can walk at a sustained moderate pace and can tackle most hills without too much trouble.
PLEASE NOTE:
There are no gates or stiles but there is a very real possibility of encountering New Forest grazing livestock such as ponies, cows and donkeys. The very nature of the New Forest terrain means that springs pop up in unexpected places after heavy rain so please make sure you wear waterproof footwear (no wellies)! Dogs are welcome but there will be stretches where they must be on a lead so please make sure you are confident and safe with dogs on a lead when using poles and around livestock. Please make sure you have filled in a dog disclaimer form available from Janet before bringing your pooch.
