Walk Description:

Our Friday Explorer WALX is a chance to relax and enjoy the scenery and natter on the hoof.

This walk is around Silchester and will include elements of the Roman ruins, Silchester Common.

 The ground is rather undulating so sturdy shoes with grippy soles are suggested. There are several inclines on well-made paths, some with steps.

It is a brisk but sociable pace with just one stop for a quick slurp and nibble. Enjoy this friendly walk with or without poles. Don't forget your camera!

Lunch at the Calleva for those who have the afternoon to continue with our relaxed Friday agenda.

Our Covid-19 social distancing protocol is:

Do keep 2 metres apart. Stay within your social bubble. Only use your own poles and equipment.  Carry a face mask and hand sanitiser (use regularly especially if you handle gates, etc). Wear a face mask if you feel more comfortable doing so. Please do not book on for a WALX if you think you may have symptoms, or do have symptoms or have been in contact with someone who has symptoms. Ensure you book in advance so that our Contact and Trace records are accurate.

It is essential to register and book in advance online.

Please ensure your PARQ is up to date and notify us in writing if you have any change to your medical records or physical or mental wellbeing. This should include any surgery, falls, knocks or accidents. Thank you.

It is advisable to wear a bum bag with a water bottle or hydration pack. Do bring a high energy snack to have on the hoof or as soon as we finish. Wear comfortable clothing that is suitable for the weather. Do wear sturdy grippy shoes.

We respect people`s busy agendas and do like to start promptly. Please arrive 15 minutes early for your class and be ready to start on time. Please do not be offended if we do not wait whilst you get yourself sorted. We do a warm-up close by so please do catch up.

This session is aimed at everyone walking at natter on the hoof speed! We ask that you keep the community spirit. For those wishing to stride out, we operate the "the whistle and loopback" fun strategy. It helps maintain our sense of community but addresses different needs.

You are asked to contact your WALX Guide by phone, leaving a voicemail or sending an SMS text to the number listed below, if you are likely to be delayed as we do start classes promptly.

We ask that give us at least 2 hours notice if you can not make a WALX. Whilst we do understand that sometimes it is not possible to make a WALX, please be aware that we do operate a no refund policy after a walk has started or if third parties (costs) are involved.

All activities are undertaken at your own risk. We cannot be held responsible for any injuries or accidents incurred. We undertake to deliver all classes with qualified staff and have made every effort to risk assess all WALX. On occasions, it is necessary to make dynamic risk assessment decisions when there is a localised incident such as trees falling on the route, flooding, traffic changes, etc.
