Walk Description:

Join us on the shortest route to reach the summit of Helvellyn from Glenridding. No scrambling involved, but you still get to conquer two Wainwright's; Whiteside and Helvellyn. We will welcome everyone from 9-9:30am with a brew and a cake, then departure for our adventure at 9:45. Starting at Glenridding we will have a gradual ascent from the village, past Greenside mines and up the zig zag path at Kepple Cove to ascend Whiteside (a Wainwright Fell). Then onto Helvellyn Lower Man and the summit of Helvellyn. You will have magnificent views from above Red Tarn and the famous Striding Edge and Swirral Edge, you will also be able to see Ullswater, as well as a panoramic view of the whole Lake District Mountain Range on a clear day. We return via the same route, from this direction you can appreciate the views towards the North Lakes, Blencathra and Skiddaw. On a clear day, you can see as far as the Solway Firth and maybe the Scottish coast! You are very welcome to bring your Nordic Poles or Tracking Poles if you wish. All WALX are subject to change due to adverse weather and you must accept the Sound Mountain Judgement of our experienced leaders on these occasions. We will write to all participants of this walk in the week prior to the event, to confirm meeting point, and parking arrangements.  We will also include links to check the weather forecast to build excitement for your day on the mountains.   Some technical ground will be covered so all terrain shoes with a good trail grip are essential. Please also bring waterproofs with you, even on a good day, these will act as your emergency layer.  We will get a good speed up to do this loop in the allotted time so make sure you come with a water bottle, high energy snack and a pack to take some layers off as we head off!  PLEASE GET IN TOUCH IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF YOUR FITNESS LEVEL OR ABILITY TO WALK ON THE TRICKY LAKELAND TERRAIN AS I'M HAPPY TO HAVE A CHAT ABOUT THIS. You will not be allowed to walk with our group if you do not have the right kit with you and suitable sustenance/drinks/food! Sorry to sound so strict, but we are out with you guys in the fells often with no road close by, so important you come equipped.  Our leaders will always have a first aid kit and emergency kit, but you must be able to carry your own rucksack for the duration of the walk. From September until end of April, please bring a head-torch on all walks which are due to continue into the afternoon after lunchtime. If you are joining one of our adventures/activities outdoors, by signing up you are consenting to our help in the case of emergency with regards to First Aid as required. Please ensure that you have updated any medication information to your instructor prior to the activity if anything has changed since you last walked with us.If you are keen to come from further afield and would like to book accommodation, please mention to WALX Helvellyn Ullswater for a possible discount... We have contacts with lots of B&B's, guest houses, hotels in the valley and a couple of lovely hostels too.Lastly, I may snap a few shots during our walk, PLEASE let me know if you would prefer not to be on social media or your picture used for advertising Nics Nordic Walks.  I totally understand that some folk would prefer to keep their mountain adventures as an escape from the outside world, but unless you let me know, then your image may be used.  Thank you.

Thank you.......
