Walk Description:

Our day will start with a trip on the iconic Ullswater Steamers from the heart of the Ullswater Valley, embarking at Glenridding and disembarking at Howtown, where our adventure begins. We will welcome you from 9 - 9:30am for a brew and a cake, before boarding the Ullswater Steamer for a 9:45 departure. There is a slight twist in our walk when we will bring you around the back of Hallin Fell, deviating from the Ullswater Way a little, for some local knowledge and a visit to the most beautiful and hidden church sitting in Martindale Valley floor, which is overlooked by the famous Red Deer of the valley who will be watching over us as we walk, hidden in the bracken and fellside above.   Your WALX Leaders will then guide you along the shoreline of the Ullswater Way, joining the route at Sandwick, we will pass the important Ullswater Way Heritage Features; telling stories of the valleys which lead away from the lake as you go. We will weave through ancient woodland, ascending and descending the path, as it veers around the crags which drop into Ullswater.  Don’t be fooled by the shoreline being flat, there is still ascents in short spirts to test your determination! Having said this, we will take our time and tailor our speed to all of those joining us.   The Family Business Network WALX are for team building, socialising and joining forces to encourage all those who join us. The Walk is just over 8 miles long back to Glenridding, fingers crossed for a dry day!We will write to all participants of this walk in the week prior to the event, to confirm meeting point, and parking arrangements.  We will also include links to check the weather forecast to build excitement for your day in The Ullswater Valley. Some technical ground will be covered so all terrain shoes with a good trail grip are essential. Please also bring waterproofs with you, even on a good day, these will act as your emergency layer.  We will get a good speed up to do this loop in the allotted time so make sure you come with a water bottle, high energy snack and a pack to take some layers off as we head off!  PLEASE GET IN TOUCH IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF YOUR FITNESS LEVEL OR ABILITY TO WALK ON THE TRICKY LAKELAND TERRAIN AS I'M HAPPY TO HAVE A CHAT ABOUT THIS. You will not be allowed to walk with our group if you do not have the right kit with you and suitable sustenance/drinks/food! Sorry to sound so strict, but we are out with you guys in the fells often with no road close by, so important you come equipped.  Our leaders will always have a first aid kit and emergency kit, but you must be able to carry your own rucksack for the duration of the walk. From September until end of April, please bring a head-torch on all walks which are due to continue into the afternoon after lunchtime. If you are joining one of our adventures/activities outdoors, by signing up you are consenting to our help in the case of emergency with regards to First Aid as required. Please ensure that you have updated any medication information to your instructor prior to the activity if anything has changed since you last walked with us.If you are keen to come from further afield and would like to book accommodation, please mention to WALX Helvellyn Ullswater for a possible discount... We have contacts with lots of B&B's, guest houses, hotels in the valley and a couple of lovely hostels too.Lastly, I may snap a few shots during our walk, PLEASE let me know if you would prefer not to be on social media or your picture used for advertising Nics Nordic Walks.  I totally understand that some folk would prefer to keep their mountain adventures as an escape from the outside world, but unless you let me know, then your image may be used.  Thank you.......
