Join us for a walk from Tannenbaum Campsite, Alderwasley from our new location for the mid-week walks.
Sharon, the owner of the campsite welcomes us to her outdoor café afterwards (cake and hot drinks will be available).
Bring your lunch along to enjoy in these surroundings.
We’ll stride through Shinning Cliff woods, an ancient woodland which was part of the royal hunting forest of Duffield Frith and is now designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest before picking up a section of the Midshires Way to Alderwasley.
As we are already high, only a little ascent is required to get to Alport Heights. It is the closest hill over 1,000 ft to Derby and has stunning views for miles to the South. It is possible to see Derby city centre from the summit, as well as The Wrekin, the Long Mynd of Shropshire, and the Clee Hill. It is also possible on a clear day, to see the Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield masts, the Birmingham city centre skyline, and also the Lickey Hills just beyond Birmingham.
On our return, Sharon will open up the café for a hot drink for us.
Bring a packed lunch.
