Walk Description:

WEDNESDAY'S MODERATE NORDIC ADVENTURE with WALX IN THE FOREST

CASTLE HILL AND THE PAINTED SHED!

Views with Autumn in mind!

This week walk starts at Castle Hill with its amazing and surprising views. If you can tear yourself away the route then follows the quiet road and track past Folds farm and through Brickhop Copse where the magnificent spring bluebells have given way to equally magnificent Autumn beeches!

The views from here are again spectacular, probably the reason for locating Frankenbury fort here - the largest Iron Age hillfort in the New Forest, with its unparalled vista over the Avon Valley.

But it's the beech trees that are the star of the show here as they turn a magnificent shade of red signalling that autumn is well and truly here. We then wend our way past Sandy Balls to Godshill, taking a side trail past the amazing painted shed, depicting all the highlights of the New Forest in its shabby chic style. The cricket pitch here is usually surrounded with donkeys, always lovely to see though not guaranteed, as we round the village back through Godshill Inclosure to Castle Hill.

This 5 mile walk is definitely a walk with views!!

BOOKINGS AND CANCELLATIONS

Please do not use the postcode to find locations in the New Forest. They often take you to the wrong place as they cover groups of house. Use what3words or the name of the location.

The walks are not suitable for those starting out on their fitness journey or who require regular breaks.

Please contact Janet if you need more information as to whether this walk is for you.

PLEASE NOTE:

There may be some gates and stiles. There is a very real possibility of encountering grazing livestock such as ponies, cows and donkeys. The very nature of the New Forest terrain means that springs pop up in unexpected places after heavy rain so please make sure you wear waterproof footwear (no wellies)! Dogs are welcome but Fido may need to be on a lead some of the time. Please make sure you have filled out a dog disclaimer form from Janet before bringing your pooch.
