Walk Description:

This is a social walk suitable for all abilities. The walk is about 2.5 miles and mainly flat.

A rich mosaic of dry, humid and wet heath, bog pools, ponds, grassland and woodland. All six of the native reptiles live here, including the rare sand lizard and smooth snake. There are also many dragonfly species

Much of its undulating character in the higher northern part is due to quarrying for the pottery and brick making industries that developed around the heath.

A lovely walk around the wooded paths around the edge of Upton Heath. The paths can be muddy after heavy rain. There may be cows or ponies on the walk.

We will park in a residential area, on Woodpecker Lane. From here, we walk on the pavement and under a subway to reach the wooded areas at the southern end of Upton Heath
