Walk Description:

Today our walk is a special one! Welford Park is a country house and estate perhaps best known for its displays of snowdrops in early Spring, and for being the location of The Great British Bake Off from 2014-19.

Welford Park is a country house and estate in the village of Welford in the English county of Berkshire, situated 5.2 miles northwest of Newbury and 10.9 miles south of Wantage. Whilst of some historical significance, the estate is perhaps best known for its displays of snowdrops in early Spring, and for being the location of The Great British Bake Off since 2014.

The church of Welford St Gregory, one of only two existing round-tower churches in Berkshire, is located adjacent to the house. The various chalk streams that make up the River Lambourn flow through the grounds.

We start in the village of Welford and undertake a 5.5 mile walk around the countryside around the park then enter the park for the 1.5 mile snowdrop walk. There is a tea shop on site for us to have a cuppa or bite to eat afterwards. https://www.welfordpark.co.uk - there is a £10 charge to enter the park to view the snowdrops (£8 consession). This should be paid on the day at the kisok as we enter the park.

I have priced the extra walk at £8 (£6.80 for pre-pay members and FREE for direct debit members).

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WALK IS STARTING BEFORE THE CAR PARK OPENS - SO YOU WILL NEED TO PARK IN THE VILLAGE ON THE ROAD. MEET AT THE LYCHGATE AT THE CHURCH OF WELFORD ST GREGORY.

Suitable for all levels as faster walkers can walk on ahead and then loop back while others walk at their own pace.

Some moderate hills will be included.

7 miles with the additional walk around the park at the end.

Directions: Park in the village and meet at the gate of the church of Welford St Gregory.

Please note you need to wear suitable shoes for nordic walking - walking shoes or lightweight boots are fine as long as they are flexible enough.

Please note walkers must observe current government guidelines for COVD-19.

If you have not attended a walk recently please re-visit your PARQ and answer all questions including decalrations on COVID 19. If you walk regularly please just ignore this section.

Please bring your own equipement or if you need to borrow poles you will be provided with Activator strapless poles which are much easier to clean.

Please bring a mask if you would like to enter the cafe or the toilets. It is wise when taking part in activities indoors that you take a lateral flow test before you attend.

If you experience symptoms before the walk please cancel and let me know via text or private message if this is within 2 hours of the walk start.
