The dark nights don't put us off from getting some fresh air exercise. Wrap up warm, bring a torch and join our group for a fitness fix at the end of the day. Leave the other half to do the washing up, or squeeze in a walk before dinner - whichever you prefer, we guarantee you will feel refreshed and thankful for making the effort. This walk is suitable for beginners and experienced walkers alike. See the local area in whole new light - after dark!
For those joining this activity as part of the JUST Get Involved Programme, please register your details on this website, and use your code to book. You are required to complete the brief health questionnaire before joining us for your session. If any issues are raised we will make contact to check this activity is appropriate for you. When asked to pay for the activity, please redeem the code provided to you.
Meet at School Road Car Park (LE8 0JE), adjacent to the Grammar School Hall.
Pace: Steady, to suit the group. Walking poles are not required to join this walk, but you are welcome to use them. We recommend you join our Power of Poles training to learn the correct Nordic Walking technique to maximise the benefits of using poles.
Terrain: This is a mixed terrain venue. Although we will mostly stay on tarmac pavements even these could get muddy at this time of year.
Clothing: Please come prepared for the weather on the day. We recommend you wear layers to keep you warm, and avoid wearing jeans as these are cold if they get wet, and can chafe. A waterproof outer layer is preferred in wet weather. Walking boots/shoes or sturdy trainers with a good grip are the best footwear. Pumps, wellies and slip-on shoes are not suitable.
Bring any food and drink you might need during the walk. For those who wish, there is the opportunity for a drink at one of the local pubs afterwards. Please remember to adhere to current COVID restrictions. There are no public toilets in the area.
Elevation: No significant inclines.
When joining us we ask you to read and agree to these safety measures:We aim to be respectful towards members of the public and reassure them of our safe practices. Please bring a small backpack or bum bag with water and a snack if required. Participants are required to register and complete an online health questionnaire in advance. If you feel unwell between booking and joining the class, we ask you to err on the side of caution and cancel your booking. You will be re-credited, and can rebook for a future date or a refund can be issued.
