Join Carolyn for a brisk stride out around Western Park. We all know we need to make time to move more, and what better way to do it than with other people who have the same mindset. We will use pavements and pathways to circumnavigate Western Park, taking the opportunity to push the pace and increase our heart rate. With the better weather and lighter evenings we can explore the park in more detail, and may even venture across to Braunstone Park to extend the distance.
Meet at the junction of Letchworth Road and Glenfield Road. Street parking is available on surrounding residential roads, but please be considerate of those living in the area.
Pace: Steady, to suit the group. Walking poles are not required to join this walk, but you are welcome to use them. We ask that you join our Power of Poles training to learn the correct Nordic Walking technique to maximise the benefits of using poles.
Terrain: We will mostly stay on tarmac pavements and pathways, but if the ground conditions are good enough may venture off onto the grassed areas.
Clothing: Please come prepared for the weather on the day. The temperature can still drop quickly at this time of year. We recommend you wear layers to keep you warm, and avoid wearing jeans as these are cold if they get wet, and can chafe. A waterproof outer layer is preferred in wet weather. Walking boots/shoes or sturdy trainers with a good grip are the best footwear. Pumps, wellies and slip-on shoes are not suitable as they may cause blisters.
Bring any food and drink you might need during the walk. Please remember to adhere to current COVID restrictions. There are no public toilets in the area.
Elevation: There are no significant inclines on this walk.

Please bring a small backpack or bum bag with water and a snack if required. Participants are required to register and complete an online health questionnaire in advance. If you feel unwell between booking and joining the class, we ask you to err on the side of caution and cancel your booking. You will be re-credited, and can rebook for a future date or a refund can be issued.
