RUTH'S LONGER 3 HOUR TUESDAY ADVENTURE WALK (meet at 10.20am for a prompt 10.30am start time) - Led by Parks and Pathways Walk Leader Ruth Evans. A moderate pace 2 -3 hour walk of around 5-6 miles from different locations.
THIS WEEK - Join Ruth for Lyme & a Brew (or two) from Nelson's Pit, Higher Poynton. This 4.5-5 mile walk will start from Nelson's Pit Car Park Visitor Centre and we will aim to be back for 1.30pm depending on how long we linger in the cafe at Lyme Park. Enjoy the tranquility of the numerous canal boats on the Macclesfield Canal with views across to Lyme Park after crossing the lush green space of the Middlewood Way which follows the line of the former Macclesfield, Bollington and Marple railway. We will climb up into Lyme Park and enjoy(hopefully weather permitting) the glorious views across Manchester and Cheshire from The Cage and enjoy a brew at the cafe. There are a couple of stiles and a steep but steady climb up into Lyme and back down (but we'll take it steady). Also there are some uneven paths and different terrains. Bring a drink & something to eat with you in case the cafe is busy.
Meeting point: Outside Nelson's Pit Visitor Centre, 18 Lyme Road, Higher Poynton, SK12 1TH (toilet facilities available). From the A34 Wilmslow/Handforth bypass take the A555 slip road to Buxton/Bramhall/Woodford/Poynton. After 2.2 miles turn right, then left onto Chester Road A5149. After just over a mile at the roundabout exit onto Park Lane. Turn left onto Middlewood Road after just under a mile then turn right onto Anson Road. After half a mile cross straight over Shrigley North Road onto Lyme Road and the car park for the visitor centre.
Note car parking charge of £3 for 3-10 hours. (Pay cash or card via machine). There may be free parking available on nearby Shrigley Road North.
