MIKE`S LONGER 2-3 HOUR TUESDAY ADVENTURE WALK (meet at 10.20am for a prompt 10.30am start time) - Led by Parks and Pathways Walk Leader Mike Podmore. It will be a moderate pace 2 -3 hour walk of around 5 to 8 miles from different locations taking place at least twice a month when Mike is available.
THIS WEEK - Sankey Valley Country Park, Carr Mill Reservoir & the 19 Arch Bridge, St Helens. This walk is a flat 6.2 miles which is mostly on decent tracks. This interesting walk takes us from our meeting point through Sankey Valley Country Park which initially follows the disused St Helens canal and then Black Brook. We reach Carr Mill Reservoir crossing the dam to take a path around part of the reservoir to follow the course of the The Goyt stream. Further country tracks takes us to the edge of Chadwick Green where we follow the edge of a wood back to the reservoir where we cross the fantastic brick bridge with 19 Arches to join the other side of the reservoir before returning to Sankey Valley Country Park & our start point.
Meeting point – Meet in the car park at Sankey Valley Visitor Centre, Blackbrook Road, St Helens. From the A580 East Lancashire Road turn onto the A58 Stanley Bank Way. Straight on at the roundabout still following the A58. After half a mile turn right onto Blackbrook Road and follow the road round to the left into the visitor car park next to the Ship Inn for the Visitor Centre. Don't park in the pub car park, the visitor centre car park is to the rear of the pub. There are NO toilets but plenty of places for going 'wild'. This is rucksack cafe walk so bring a drink & something to eat.
What3Words - ///stars.wire.hunt will will take you to the turning onto Blackbrook Road off the A58 Stanley Bank Way & ///clues.actual.scale will take you to car park for the visitor centre (closed).
