5 things our WALX members wish they had known before joining…

WALX Coast and Country has been running since 2016, and I’m incredibly proud that many of our members have been with us right from the very beginning.

Everyone joins for their own reasons. Some want to get fitter, some want to spend more time outdoors, some are looking for company, and others simply want to try something new.

But before taking that first step, many people spend time wondering whether WALX will be right for them. That’s completely understandable — starting something new can feel like a big decision, especially when you’re not quite sure what to expect.

So, we asked our members what they wish they had known before they joined — the things that might have made that decision a little easier.

Here are their top five:

1. You don’t have to be super-fit to join

There really is a walk, pace and session to suit everyone. You can start exactly where you are and build your fitness gradually and confidently.

2. Walking with poles is a proper workout

It’s much more than simply walking with poles for support. When used correctly, they engage your whole body and can help improve strength, balance, posture and overall fitness.

3. The coffee afterwards is almost as important as the walk

Yes, we absolutely exercise — but we also value the social side just as much. A good chat, plenty of laughter, and often coffee and cake afterwards are all part of the experience!

4. You discover places you never knew were there

From beautiful countryside and woodland to coastal paths, villages and stunning viewpoints, WALX introduces many members to places right on their doorstep that they had never explored before.

5. You may join for the walking… but you stay for the people

The friendships, encouragement, laughter and sense of belonging are often what members value most. It’s something you can’t fully understand until you experience it for yourself.

Looking back, this is one of the things I am most proud of at WALX Coast and Country. It’s not just about walking. It’s about people, confidence, fitness, friendship, and having a reason to get out into the fresh air.

So, if you’ve ever found yourself wondering “Would WALX Coast and Country be for me?” — perhaps our members have already answered that question for you.

We’d love to welcome you on a walk soon.
