Christmas Games

I love Christmas for so many reasons, but one of the big factors is the time we spend as a family.

One thing we like to do, is something active with everyone together.  This could be a family walk, a 5k race, playing in the house.  We like to move as well as relax.  It is good for everyone.  Bringing laughter, installing healthy habits, creating memories.  Don’t get me wrong, I do also love good food, a Christmas movie and living in the themed pyjamas, but adding a little bit of movement to each day can really enhance your mood and bring everyone together.

Here are some ideas to help you get started.

  1. Go on an urban walk and find your favourite Christmas lights throughout the town.
  2. There are many walks held or dipping in the water on boxing day. See what you have locally.
  3. If you have little ones, musical statues is great fun with festive music. It gets them moving and can bring a lot of laughs.
  4. Sainsbury’s have brought out these lovely small Christmas themed ‘Grow your own boxes’. Get the kids in the garden and grow your own reindeer food.
  5. Go out on a woodland creatures themed walk. Look out for the Robins and Holly.  Maybe (following all rules) forage for your wreath.
  6. Have the radio playing whilst you are prepping all the food. It will get you moving, I promise!  Get everyone making mince pies together.
  7. In our town, they have an outdoors Christmas ‘dangerous dads’ morning. Do you have any local groups where the family can attend to get you exploring nature.
  8. If you have family who love computer games, get the active games out to get people playing on their feet.
  9. Hide some elves on the shelves in the woods and allow the family to go off and find them.
  10. There are hints there may be another ‘Beast from the East’ this winter. If we find ourselves in luck of a white Christmas.  Be sure to wrap up and get outdoors.  Build a snowman and have that snow fight.  Enjoy!  I know we will be!

If you have more ideas, please do share them.  We would love to hear what you do as a family to keep moving!

Have a wonderful Christmas
