Let’s Talk About…

 Our hearts.  It is of course the month of love.  So, let’s focus on ourselves, and taking care of our hearts.

Last year we spoke about aerobic fitness and gave you ideas around cardiovascular training, but this year we thought we would focus on everything else you can do, to make your heart stronger.  Our focus is always around the physical training you can accomplish, but here is a list of other elements which complement the aerobic training we work towards, every time we walk.

  1. Sleep plays a big part with our heart health. Ensure you get enough sleep.
  2. Try stay a healthy weight.
  3. Eat a heart healthy diet. A well-rounded balanced diet, with whole foods.
  4. Don’t sit for long periods at a time. Keep moving and stay active.
  5. Should you smoke, vape, or live with someone who does, try stay away from second-hand smoke.
  6. Drink in moderation. Be sensible with your alcohol intake.
  7. Recognise your stress. Avoid situations which raise your stress levels.
  8. Take control of your blood sugar levels and cholesterol.
  9. Manage your blood pressure. You can always pop to the GP or pharmacy to get a reading.
  10. Brush your teeth and floss daily.

For February, can you select one item from the list to focus on throughout the month.  Something you don’t always consider.  One thing to make your heart stronger.
