The 15th to 21st May 2023 is Mental Health Awareness Week. Anxiety is one of the most common mental health problems we can face. There are various types of anxiety such as generalised anxiety disorder (GAD). GAD is the most common type of anxiety disorder. There is also panic disorder, social disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and possibly health anxiety. In total there are 12 different types.

In a recent survey carried out by the Mental Health Foundation, a quarter of adults said they felt so anxious that it stopped them from doing the things they want to do some or all the time. Six in ten adults feel this way, at least some of the time.

Getting outside and spending time in Nature plays a significant part in improving our mental health. You can be on your own but sharing it with others brings even more benefits. Here are some examples…

  • It improves your mood
  • It reduces feelings of stress
  • It helps you take time out to relax
  • It improves your physical health
  • It improves your confidence and self-esteem
  • It helps you more physically active
  • It helps you meet and get to know new people
  • It connects you to your local community
  • It reduces the feeling of loneliness
  • It helps you feel more connected to nature
  • It provides support

WALX Coast and Country pride themselves with creating an atmosphere where people can feel part of a caring and supportive group. We laugh and have fun together whilst making the most of our local beaches and countryside.

The members have experienced improvements in their physical and mental health. If you know of someone who could benefit from joining us make the effort to reach out to them.
