The Importance of Warming Up

Before every walk we like to lead you through a warmup, but how many of you consider this before taking on a solo walk or exercise session. Do you know the purpose of one?

Did you know there are a few elements we try to cover when completing a warmup.  One to protect the joints, one to prepare the heart and lungs, getting the blood flowing to where it’s needed, whilst raising the body temperature, lengthening the muscles to avoid pulling and to mimic skills required for the session.

Before going on your next solo adventure, try to build up the intensity gradually.  Mobilise and stretch dynamically, and you will notice you are able to sustain the session for longer and feel more able.  Any challenge will be managed better. This is due to the blood being where it needs to be, in order to deliver oxygen for energy.  The muscles will have a good range of movement, ready to undertake any effort.  The brain and nervous system will be communicating effectively to undertake the skills required.  Lastly, the cartilage covering bones in the body, will be protecting them and absorbing any impact which could cause damage internally.

So keep this in mind when you go on your next walk.
