My Journey into the Trees
“Some of you may know that last year, my husband and I sold our home in Dorset and bought a motorhome, spending over a year traveling through Ireland and parts of Europe.
Before leaving Dorset, I had the opportunity to attend a Forest Bathing workshop, where techniques were taught to enhance our relationship with nature using our senses. This course was empowering, and with the extra time while traveling, I was able to put these skills to use.
We were fortunate to buy 4 acres of old forest plantation and farmland in a remote area of Cork in Southern Ireland. Many long hours have been spent getting to know those 4 acres over the last year and during different seasons. I miss the farm deeply when we leave, and every time we return, the landscape welcomes me back.
Back in Dorset, I undertook the Wild Path Tutor course through the WALX Academy to deepen my learning and to be able to share my passion with others. There’s no better way to strengthen newfound knowledge or passion than by passing it on.
The final part of the course involved undertaking my first ‘medicine walk.’ I spent 4/5 hours in a small woodland near my new home. The experience was uplifting, exhilarating, and powerful. In the woodland, I went through a mix of emotions, from fatigue to amazement and curiosity. There was an incredible energy that drove me to write down everything I was seeing and feeling.
Walking, standing, and sitting in different parts of the woodland, words tumbled onto my pad. I read from a nature book, listened, looked, noticed, and rested with a flask of coffee. It was a special experience, and now, when I walk in that woodland, I feel a deep connection and a great sense of safety, as if we are old friends.
Spending time in nature has known benefits, such as reducing stress, lowering blood pressure, improving mental health, and providing a calming and healing experience. Having completed the training for the WALX Wild Path course, I am excited to share and give others the opportunity to learn the secret power of the woodland.”
My first Wild Path Nature Therapy Workshop is on Saturday 30 December where I invite you to the Woodland in Wool. You will get to experience the power of nature and learn about your own nature connection.
What a way to see out 2023 and prepare your mind and body for the approaching year ahead.
