When Emma White started WALX Leamington & Warwick, her aim was to build a friendly, inclusive walking group. This wish came true when a room full of us got together to surprise her for her 60th birthday last Saturday morning.

Over 60 members responded to the WhatsApp group set up by organisers Nicky, Gill, Janet, Pauline, and Marie, aided by Emma’s husband Peter. The best thing was that Emma had no idea, having commented earlier in the week that “nothing gets past me”. When she walked into the room and saw us all, she was gobsmacked. It’s the first time we’ve ever seen her speechless.

This message from her 6-page birthday card sums up how we all feel:

“What an inspiration you are! So fit, fabulous and full of energy, you make every walk an absolute joy. Your happy, infectious enthusiasm, fun-loving nature and the variety you bring to every walk make us all look forward to the next one! The growing numbers joining your walks speak volumes and are a real credit to you and all the effort you put in”

We all enjoyed the refreshments, including the delicious cakes baked by some members, while Emma got to chat to everyone.
