Welcome to December’s Newsletter.

Just over a week has passed since we managed to get November’s Newsletter out but at least we are almost back on schedule with a short one this month.

Decembrrrr has started with the icy blast that was promised as a carry over from the end of November. Due to Christmas Day falling on a Saturday we have made a few changes to the normal schedules so please check the booking calendar.

Christmas Merchandise

Remember we still have one last shop ‘n drop before Christmas. It is due for delivery on Friday 17 December so if there is anything you want please place your orders as soon as possible. The process for shop ‘n drop changed as the store moved to the new WALX website. We now get a voucher code that you can enter when going through the checkout so please let us know prior to ordering so that we can ensure you still get free delivery.

Cancelling Walks

We were disappointed to have cancel some of our walks at the end of November due to Storm Arwen. On Saturday 27 November we woke to snowfall and more importantly heavy winds. A number of trees and branches had been brought down and the wind was expected to last until mid-afternoon.

We went out on Sunday to do a risk assessment of the areas we had planned to walk on the Monday. Unfortunately due to the overnight temperatures the fallen snow had turned to ice making the car parks and walking routes too dangerous for us to go ahead. We managed to contact all the people who had booked on in good time to ensure no one made an unnecessary journey. It is not an easy decision to cancel but we must make sure all of our walkers are safe.

Sunrise and Sunset WALX

We have added a sunrise and a sunset walk in December. Both were really popular last year and we had hoped to do more in the first part of this year but were unable to due to the lockdown we experienced. The sunrise walk starts in the dark and if we are lucky get to see the sun coming up over the horizon before making our way back to the car park. The sunset walk ends in the dark which is a lovely way to end the day on Cannock Chase. Experiencing the change from daylight can be a magical time as the daytime animals bed down and the nocturnal ones start to go about their evening.

Freedom Passports
November saw us extend a warm welcome to Jo-Anne, Mary, Yvonne, Claire, Jackie and Julie when they gained their Freedom Passports. It has been a difficult month to start walking with us but we hope to see you out with us soon

Walk of the month
Monday 22 November Wellness WALX saw 7 of us enjoy the woods and pools at Birches Valley and Fairoak. These lunchtime walks are gaining in popularity and are a great way for members to start their exercise journey. Everyone commented on how good it felt to get out and about. Some of our walkers who work full-time also used it as an opportunity to get away from their desks for an hour or so over lunchtime.

Merry Christmas

Hopefully this year’s Christmas will see people getting back to a family time meeting up again.

We would like to wish all of our members a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We hope you have a very enjoyable time over the festive period and look forward to seeing you over this time and into 2022.
