As we head towards the autumn equinox, we are noticing the colours change around us and the night’s drawing in.
Our Monday and Thursday evening Nordic WALXs are becoming well attended, so for those of you who are relatively new to walking with us and don’t have head torches now is the time to think about investing in one!

WALX Guide Training
Wow! We now have an additional three people signed up to train as WALX Guides before the end of the year. An amazing response, thank you all. This will enable us to look at our future offering but more importantly it is seeing our members enjoying what they do and wanting to learn more of what we are about.

Click your WALX
Back in May our first Click your WALX competition was won by Emma and she finally received her t-shirt last month; here’s the photographic evidence! Well Done Emma and keep your eyes peeled for the next one.

Many of you have noticed that Jon, Sharon and Pam wear branded clothing when walking. These items aren’t just for Instructors and WALX Guides, they are available for everyone to buy. Once the new online store is open we will let you know so that if any of you are interested in ordering anything you can do so. Items can be added to any ‘Shop n drop’ which provides free delivery. Leggings and skorts are available from Flanci  – a discount code is available from the WALX benefits page.

WALX Membership
Remember your WALX membership offers you discount not just from the WALX shop. If you aren’t a member, take a look and see what benefits are on offer

August saw a testimonial from Anne who joined us on a bring a friend for free back in April. Anne now exercises with us 3 – 4 times a week. A big thank you to Anne for her positive feedback.
If you would like to feature in the Tuesday testimonials, then please let Jon know or drop us a message.

It’s been two months since we ‘lost’ our interns but being a bit of a stats geek, we do check on how well our social media pages are doing! Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are still increasing with the number of followers, with Facebook remaining the most popular. Please keep sharing, retweeting and tagging us into any of your social media posts!

Freedom Passports
August saw us extend a warm welcome to Jill, Tracey and Sue when they gained their Freedom Passports. We look forward to seeing them on our WALX.

Total Body WALX
Jon ran our first Total Body WALX on Saturday 14 August. This proved a huge success, and we will be adding regular TBW sessions into the calendar.
Many people are still uncomfortable returning to their indoor exercise classes so what better way to exercise than in a gym without walls with other like-minded people.
The unique Total Body WALX drills will make sure you can work on all aspects of your fitness bringing elements of cardio, strength, balance, agility, high impact and flexibility.

Walk of the month
This month we have chosen the Total Body WALX from Marquis Drive on 14 August, which saw Anne, Justine, Laura, Oksana and Gillian take part. If you have a particular walk that you have enjoyed, let us know. It also helps with future planning.

On 15 August we completed the second leg of the Slowways route linking Rugeley to Cannock. The scenery was a little different as we navigated down Chadsmoor High Street and the weather did have some inclement moments.
After reaching Cannock railway station we found a slightly different route back through some urban nature reserves. Reaching the greenery of the Chase found us once again enjoying the natural beauty of Cannock Chase before a well-earned coffee and brownie to recharge the batteries.

Virtual Classes
During the first lockdown WALX introduced Virtual classes for anyone wishing to continue with their exercising in a familiar environment with other WALX enthusiasts. These are still running.
Anyone who is a member can join in and you book and pay as you would a face-to-face session. For monthly DD subscribers these are also included in your monthly membership.

16 Mile Challenge
On the 18 September some of our members will be taking on the 16-mile Purbeck virtual challenge on Cannock Chase. The WALX will be starting and finishing at Birches Valley so that refreshments and conveniences will be available.
The walk is being scheduled as 1 x 8 and 2 x 4-mile sessions so if anyone would like to join in for 16, 12, 8 or 4 miles please check out the bookings calendar.
It would be amazing to have as many of you as possible at Birches Valley for the end of the walk for a coffee, flapjack, and a catchup.

Forestry England
We have now completed all the necessary conditions to be granted a licence from Forestry England. This now authorises us to take guided walks across the areas of Cannock Chase under their management.
We have been working closely with the local team since we took over the group in February 2020; the pandemic and associated lockdowns have not helped but we are now finally across the line and look forward to working closely with the FE team and enjoying the stunning locations and facilities available to us moving forward.

Hope to see you soon!
