Here at WALX Wessex we are based around Marlborough, Hungerford and Pewsey which is right in the middle of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).   now known as National Landscape (NL).

The North Wessex Downs National Landscape is a designated protected landscape. It straddles the boundaries of Berkshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire and covers 173 parishes and it is the third largest NL in the country covering an area of 668 square miles (1,730 square kilometres).

We walk all over the western part of the NL and offer special explorer walks to some of the further reaches of the area too.

We are lucky to walk in both the Marlborough and Pewsey Downs, the ancient landscapes around Avebury NT and the first half of the Ridgeway National Trail. We have several of the highest hills in the south west with Walbury Hill in the east to Milk Hill in the west. Connected by many walking trails such as Mid Wilts Way, Wayfarers Walk, Wansdyke Trail and the White Horse Trail. All 9 of the white horses are found in this area and are included in our walks. The newly created Pewsey Vale Circular Trail provides a 77 mile trail around the whole area and gives us even more options to find new and interesting takes on walks in the area.

We run longer explorer walks on Wednesdays and on the weekends but other walks use this amazing landscape. So over a week we could include a hilly faster 5kms up and around Milk Hill, a walk in West Woods or a ascent from the Kennet and Avon canal up to Pewsey Downs. we explore the history of the area from neolithic barrows and hill forts, to roman remains to stately homes and quaint villages of the Pewsey Vale. We have lots of lovely cafes and pubs that we can include in walks for a mid walk coffee or a meal after a longer walk.

We have a large resource of walks that we rarely repeat them more than a couple of time a month.

So we look forward to seeing you on a walk soon.
