The Team at Penzance Leisure Centre (Parkwood leisure) have been trained by WALX to deliver total body walking programmes as part of a drive to get more people active.
The team comprising of the gym staff and Exercise referral practitioners, will be delivering the WALX 6 week lifestyle plan which combines walking based wellness and mobility sessions with simple weekly tips about being active, eating well and looking after mental health.
In this image they are learning to master the fluid movements and natural stride pattern of total body walking.
Using ergonomic WALX poles which provide all the benefits of traditional Nordic walking but with an easier to master and more natural walking style, participants will enjoy a full body workout with every step. Those with fitness or health issues, will be encouraged by the support and propulsion which aids walking but can quickly progress to include the balance, strength and mobility drills which are part of the plan.
The Leisure Centre will offer 3 WALX sessions a week which are open to current Centre users as well new participants targeted by the initial campaign. Tuition, wellness and Fitness sessions will take place at the Centre with a view to expanding the walks into the wider locality with community leaders also trained by WALX.
Joint funded by Active travel and Cornwall council the project will also provide free places to local residents in need of support to make lifestyle changes. The promotion and administration of sessions is all managed via the WALX portal which has over 1,000 walks a week
across the UK.
