Coordinated by Wakefield Council (Health Improvement department funded by Public Health) this project started in 1999 as Health Walks and later as Nordic Walks with training from Nordic Walking UK ( now WALX) in 2011
In 20i7 they attended one of the NWUK festivals in the Peak District.
Today an average of 200 individual walkers attend the FREE Nordic Walking sessions over 10 locations on 5 week days but the team felt it was time for a refresh so WALX were called in to re train the current leaders, support a new physical activity team in relation to health screening, participation reports etc and to introduce strapless poles
The dedicated volunteers are passionate about their Nordic walking but open to change – they embraced new initiatives and are keen to build their programme further with the support of WALX
We look forward to visiting them again in another 10 years of so!
