Walk Description:
We leave Monyash via Bagshaw Dale which brings us to the beginning of Lathkill Dale. We immediately walk uphill towards Ricklow Dale. On the right of Ricklow Dale are the spoil heaps of Ricklow Quarry. We turn right at a sign for Haddon Grove Farm across a series of fields and high wall stiles, to come out onto the lane to Haddon Grove. We are now at the highest point in our walk. With good weather we have wide views. We turn right at the sign for Mill Farm and walk down to Lathkill Dale. We now start walking back to Monyash. We will see some weirs and remains of Carter’s Mill. The water from here can be quite high, depending on the rain. Lathkill Head Cave is the source of the river and water coming out can be like a waterfall. After this there is no water in Lathkill Dale, it looks like a gorge with lots of rocks on the path. Later it becomes a wide dale and we walk towards the main road which we follow into Monyash Please bring water & snacks, also waterproofs & layers.
Footpaths, farm tracks and quiet lanes without pavement. Some areas prone to mud and uneven walking.
Stiles: 10+ Gradients: Lowest 600ft, Highest 930ft, Total ascent 490ft Lunch: The Old Smithy tearoom, Monyash
