Walk Description:

This walk explores one of the most beautiful and unspoilt corners of the White Peak, centred around the limestone villages and dales of Alstonefield, Milldale and Stanshope.

The area is known for its dramatic limestone scenery, clear rivers, hidden valleys and long pastoral views shaped by centuries of farming and foot travel. Late February is a particularly special time to be here. The sheltered dales often host an impressive display of snowdrops, carpeting banks and woodland edges with white and bringing a welcome lift to the winter landscape. These early signs of spring contrast beautifully with the pale limestone, dry-stone walls and open upland pasture that define the White Peak.

The Dove Valley and its surrounding dales have long been valued for their tranquillity and sense of timelessness. Even on cooler days, the combination of sheltered valley floors and higher open ground creates a rewarding and varied walking experience, rich in natural beauty and seasonal interest. A peaceful, atmospheric walk that showcases the Peak District at its most quietly dramatic — and perfectly timed to enjoy one of nature’s most uplifting early blooms.
