Walk Description:

SPECIAL OUTING: PAINSWICK BEACON & ROCCOCO GARDENS FOR SNOWDROPS

Today we have a special outing to the Painswick Roccoco Gardens for visting the snowdrops. a 2 mile walk around the gardens and then an optional extra walk to the Painswick Beacon on the Cotswold Way for sweeping views towards Severn River and Forest of Dean as visibility usually better later in the day.

VENUE: The Painswick Rococo Garden a whimsical, 18th-century "pleasure garden" nestled in a hidden Cotswold valley, designed in the 1740s for flamboyant garden parties and light-hearted escapism. It is renowned as the only complete surviving Rococo garden in the UK, dotted with charming follies like the Gothic Red House and the white-painted Exedra. Every winter, the garden undergoes a magical transformation as over five million snowdrops carpet the woodland floor and steep valley banks, creating one of the largest naturalised displays in the country. Among its 15 known varieties is the tall and elegant Galanthus 'Atkinsii', which was famously discovered in Painswick during the 1800s. The peak blooming period typically occurs from late January to mid-February, offering a serene "winter wonderland" that signals the very first signs of spring.

WALK DETAILS: The walk around the gardens is around 2 miles taking in all the pathways. We will then walk up the Cotswold Way to the Painswick Beacon which is about another 2 miles (there and back). So walking in total today will be around 4-5 miles.

GRADIENT: The gardens have some steep areas and the walk up to the beacon is also up a hill. You could choose to drive up to the beacon if you prefer.

REFRESHMENTS: There is a cafe at the gardens.

TICKETS: Tickets to enter the house are £12:80 for adults and £11.50 for over 60's (can add optional Gift Aid donation). I will enquire once I know how many people if we need to book in advance. Painswick Roccoco Gardens
