Walk Description:
Join us for a challenging 6.5 mile walk from the Old Village of Tyneham on a loop to Kimmeridge.
This spectacular coastal walk takes us across the famous firing ranges (don’t worry — they’ll be closed and we’ll be following the permitted routes).
We begin with a steady climb from the car park up to Gad Cliff, taking it at a comfortable pace as we gain height. From here we join the Hardy Way and follow the stunning coastline, enjoying sweeping views across the Purbeck landscape as we head down towards Kimmeridge.
Just before reaching Kimmeridge, we turn inland for a short but steep climb back up to the ridge. The route then continues along an undulating ridge path with more wonderful views, leading us towards the dramatic setting of Worbarrow Bay, where we descend a steep path down towards the valley.
The final section of the walk is much gentler, following a flat track back to the car park past woodland that may be starting to show signs of spring flowers.
This walk has two challenging climbs - one of them at the start of the walk, there is a steep decline down to Worbarrow bay and some of the walk is close the coastal edge. Parts of the walk has some uneven terrain and possible mud. You should be comfortable with walking 5 miles with some hills to join the walk. The pace is 2 miles per hour which includes rests and stops as you climb the inclines so not super fast.
Toilets are available at the start and a cafe - please be ready to start the warm-up at 09:30. Bring water and a snack and wear suitable clothing for the day - sunscreen and maybe a hat if it is hot.
