Today's Walk: Knapp Hill to Oare House for Snakesheads and Bluebells
Todays walk: A longer version of a favourite walk. Today we walk up Knapp Hill towards Gopher Woods. We then drop down to Huish with its lovely church and then to Oare House to find the Snakeshead Fritillaries in their gardens as well as the fabulous Pyramid shaped summer house built by IM Pei. There is a great view of the walk from the start. We return via Draycott Fitz Payne and Knapp Hill to return.
Pace & Intensity: Fairly moderate paced walk suitable for most abilities.
Gradient: there are some hills which can be taken slowly.
Miles: This walk is around 6 miles.
Notes: We can drive down to Honeystreet Mill Cafe afterwards for a coffee or light lunch. I will need to book so please advise when you book if you want to join us. Or if weather looks good we can bring and enjoy a flask/snack.
Location Notes:
Pewsey Downs National Nature Reserve The reserve is located by the Alton Priors White Horse, one mile north of Alton Barnes at the base of Knap Hill. A car park is situated on the minor road leading from Alton Barnes to Lockeridge, which continues to join the A4 west of Marlborough. Please note the postcode is not exact.
