Walk Description:

An easy flat walk taking in a loop of Burton Common. This is an SSSI of 79 acres.

The walk is just over 4 miles and takes around 1.5 hours.

Leaving from Christchurch/Highcliffe Sainsbury's we briefly walk near the bypass then out into peaceful countryside where birdsong can be heard and buzzards seen.

We follow a single file path around the edge of fields and over a stream. Then into pretty woodland.

Arriving in Burton Common we explore this area on wide gravel paths. It is an area of mature dry heathland with areas of deciduous woodland along the banks of a stream.

Returning along Ambury lane this completes the circular walk.

No stiles, three small bridges with handrails. Some long grass and some narrow paths, others gravel.

Sometimes there are conservation grazing cattle on the common but none seen this year.

A lot of this walk is exposed and can be hot. Bring water. Route can be muddy after rain.

Dogs on leads as per ground nesting bird requirements.

Option for refreshments afterwards at Stewart garden centre across the road. Please move your car over if intending to shop there after coffee.

Toilets in Sainsbury's are on the right of the entrance.

Meet in front of Timpsons key kiosk.

Location Notes:

Please park in Sainsbury's carpark. Free parking x 3 hours. Meet in front of the building near Timpsons. Toilets on the right as you walk into the supermarket. Stewarts garden centre is across the road.
