Walk Description:

Gore Heath and Morden Bog Circular

A delightful circular wander through the varied landscapes of Gore Heath and Morden Bog National Nature Reserve. Starting from Sherford Bridge car park, the route follows firm sandy and gravel forest tracks through mixed woodland, past atmospheric decoy ponds and wooden bridges, and out across open heathland with views over one of England's largest valley mires. Highlights include a forester's memorial, a lookout tower, the tranquil shores of Morden Park lake, and a gentle return leg alongside the River Sherford. Rich in wildlife, look out for Dartford warblers, sika deer, reptiles, and rare heathland wildflowers.

Car park location: On the right-hand side of the A3075, just before Sherford Bridge, ~2 miles from the A351 turn-off at Sandford (north of Wareham)

Location Notes:

Taking the B3075 from the A35, called Chitten Hill which turns into Morden Road and leads you to Wareham Road in Sandford, the car park/layby is off the road on the left, on a bend just after Sherford Bridge, about a mile from the A35. It is advisable to reverse park off the road, to depart more easily.
