Walk Description:

Our walk from Dover to Deal will provide stunning views of the English Channel.  Generally the terrain is undulating with just 2 significant climbs, out of Dover and again out of St Margarets Bay.  The last quarter of the walk is totally flat, along the coastal path behind the pebble beach of Deal. Though less dramatic than the White Cliffs, this section of the walk is full of historical and natural interest.

Our longer Explorer WALX are open to all, exploring beautiful areas in and around London. Routes are planned with breaks and the opportunity for refreshments but this isn't just a ramble; we'll encourage the good posture and motivation to push yourself as we do in all our WALX.

If you'd like to benefit from using Nordic walking poles, we advise you attend a Learn to Nordic WALX workshop. Walkers without poles or with trekking poles are very welcome.

Monthly Payment clients £10; Pre-paid Credit clients £16 - price adjusted at payment.

Time:  We will leave Dover Priory Station as close to 10.15 am as possible.

Approximate finish at Deal is around 3.30 depending on how long we stop along the way.

Route information

Travel by train: There are regular trains from London St Pancras and London Victoria to Dover Priory.  The fastest trains go from St Pancras and we advise catching the 9.07 am which arrives at Dover Priory at 10.13 am.

Return will be from Deal - where there is one fast train per hour.  If possible try to get a flexible ticket.

Check train tickets carefully, and remember buying in advance will secure a cheaper price.

Distance: 10 miles approximately of undulating walking with two climbs on a mixture of firm paths and grassy footpaths.

Refreshments

It is best to bring a picnic /water to have during breaks on the walk though we will pass several places where you can buy refreshments.

We will have a coffee stop at the NT cafe at South Foreland Lighthouse. There are plenty of cafes/food outlets in Deal at the end of the walk - you might even want to take a later train home.
