Walk Description:
A varied route along the streams and brooks of Brougton village followed by a short climb to magnificant views at the top of Broughton Down.
Brougton is a pretty village with thatched cottages, a historic church and unusual Dovecot.
Our route starts by taking us through the village, along streams and over fords, by picturesque properties. We pass the historic Church and Dovecot before heading out over fields to start our ascent up Broughton Down.
At the top of Broughton Down we enter the Wildlife Trust Reserve and make our way down to the Plum Pudding! Here we are rewarded by spectacular views across Brougton and Danebury Hill fort.
Look out for Chalkhill Blue and Adonis Blue butterflies which colonise in the area due to the rare chalk grassland.
As we descend back to Broughton through wooded paths lined by yew trees, expect to see Bluebells in May.
Following the walk we can have refreshments at The Post Office Cafe in the village
Location: Brougton is 10 miles north of Romsey, approx 2 miles west of Stockbridge.
Terrain: some narrow paths through the village, a small section on country roads and farm tracks. Can be muddy on Broughton Down. There is one steep but short climb.
Location Notes:
Park along the verge right at the top of Buckholt Road, by the footpath. Please be careful not to block entrances/gates.
