Walk Description:

Join us for a themed circular walk around historic Corfe Castle and the surrounding Purbeck countryside. With the castle as our backdrop, we'll explore stories of sieges, betrayal and destruction, linking the history of Corfe Castle with the traditions of Bonfire Night.

Our route takes us across Corfe Common and towards Kingston, with wonderful views of the castle and surrounding countryside. Along the way, we'll stop at selected points to uncover the stories behind the Gunpowder Plot and Corfe Castle's turbulent Civil War history.

The walk is approximately 5–6 miles and is graded moderate. Expect a mixture of tracks, grass paths, open commonland, field paths and some road walking. There are inclines, including a steeper climb towards Kingston, and uneven or potentially muddy ground after wet weather. Stiles may be present on the field sections.

Walking boots or sturdy walking shoes with good grip are recommended, particularly in November when paths may be wet and slippery.

Come along for a walk with a historical twist, a few surprises and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the Dorset countryside. After the walk we will go to the Fox Inn for some refreshments.
