As usual, Nordic Walkers have been busy taking challenges and raising money for a range of good causes. Whilst some managed huge distances, others completed personal challenges but all are NWUK heroes…..
Jackie Reiss and the STRIDE OUTDOORS group got in the Sport relief spirit with a last minute charity collection on their regular Sunday morning walk on Wimbledon common. They met up with one of the areas famous rubbish collecting residents too! Check out Uncle Bulgaria with his poles!
NWUK Instructor Kristen Pratt completed a 60km fund-raising walk in the blazing 34 Celsius heat to support research in Women’s Cancers in Perth, Australia. Kristen said “It was humbling to walk with so many cancer survivors, women with cancer undergoing treatment, and families and friends of people who hadn’t made it.” Kristin and her sister raised money for
the Perkins Institute to accelerate their impressive research into breast and ovarian cancers.
We think the following two amazing ladies deserve a mention…………….
This is Shelia Bradfield from Nordic Walking North East Essex who completed 7 miles Nordic walking between Clacton and Walton Pier to raise money for her local hospice. We met the lovely Sheila in Seville last year and we know what a transformation she has undergone since starting Nordic Walking – What a great achievement, well done Shelia!
NWUK walk leader Eileen Bartlett from Llanelli celebrated her 65th birthday by Nordic walking a 26 mile marathon along the Llanelli Coastal Path! Eileen raised over £450 for physical disability charity Phab Kids. Well done Eileen!
Instructor Lynne and Nordic walkers Jenny, Terry, Chris, Katie and Catherine completed a 23.6 mile coastal walk from Oakhaven Hospice in Lymington, Hampshire to Lewis Manning Hospice in Lilliput, Dorset and the lovely Maureen and Terri did 13.5 miles! The total is still currently being calculated, but a big well done to you all – what a fantastic cause!
