Advice on pole suitability and sizing

Unique to each individual

Poles used for stability and rehabilitation need to be adjustable to cater for different clients. This module looks at matching pole type with the mobility, grip, posture, balance and specific condition being managed. Delivered in video format by Martin Christie who has been training clinical teams for over 10 years and the WALX team responsible for the design of WALX poles

Consideration is given to progression and movement patterns which are explored during the course too.

Finally the choice of rubber ferrules and whether break away wrist straps are appropriate is covered.

The WALX phases  xxxxxxxx

Helping clients walk with two poles

Posture, confidence and stride!

Using two poles does not always come naturally and can be off putting to those who do not feel the benefits immediately

The experts at WALX have devised some clear phases of movement that help both the therapist and the walker find the right level straight away – ensuring a positive experience, comfort and stability. The phases also allow for progression (where possible) as the walker gains the fitness and confidence to improve stride and or rotation.

The WALX phases also provide the basis for exercise drills in group walking sessions.

Making walking effective
