11 years after the first training session we delivered for the Physiotherapists, and Exercise Facilitators, of the Community Neuro Team, and Integrated Falls and Bone Health Service, based at St John’s Therapy Centre  in London  (part of St George’s NHS Trust ) – we were back in February 23 to teach a new tranche and update the existing cohort.

The Centre has been an important Partner since we started to explore how the use of Nordic walking could impact on falls prevention and to help those who were recovering from fall related trauma.

It soon became apparent that using typical Nordic walking techniques where a walker is strapped into a pole was not ideal and the use of strapless poles became integral to the development of the project which also encourages  patients to lead walks for their peers.

The scope of the project soon grew to involve the Neuro team and those responsible for community physiotherapy and our Tutors have enjoyed adapting the training to consider all pole types and any technique adjustments required for certain conditions/contraindications.

For this latest update, the Team at St. Georges explored how the Xcelerator poles encourage natural walking gait, reduce pressure on the ulnar region and promote a neutral wrist angle.
