Hope you’re all well and keeping safe.

The sun has really now started to shine following a few weeks of rainfall. We were lucky though with only a few of the walks affected, but well done to those of you who still wanted to be out in the fresh air, rain or shine! We have now been out for two months since the restrictions were lifted and some of us are feeling the benefits of regular walking. Anyone wishing to join us we aim to cater for all levels of ability.

Father’s Day

On 20th June we have a special open walk where you can bring someone special for free. Experience the stunning surroundings on Cannock Chase with Dad, Grandad or someone you want to have some time with enjoying a walk. If this is for you then please following this link and then contact us for instructions to book your free guest place too. https://walx.co.uk/find-walx/205965

 Kitbag & Nessie

Our Saturday Energiser group took part in the Kitbag Hill and Nessie walks on consecutive Saturdays, towards the end of May. Ange, Joy, Lindsay, Justine and Helen completed the climb that is Kitbag Hill on Marquis Drive. Kate and Louise joined in the following week on Nessie. The time taken to complete Nessie was 19 minutes and 20 seconds, 8 minutes faster than the last time we attempted it in October 2020. We will be doing them both again soon so look out for them if you would like to join in.

Sunday Longer One

Sunday 29th May saw us on the Longer Walk. It is an opportunity to stretch your legs further with the walk taking between 2 and 3 hours and a distance of between 7 and 11 miles – time to take in more of the stunning scenery and catch-up chatting with friends. Look out for the next one at the end of June.

WALX website and App

The new WALX website and App were launched in May. It makes finding walks and the booking process even easier and also allows you to manage all aspects of your WALX account in one place. You should have received the guidance but if you are having any problems, please let us know or there are contact details for head office too.

Click your WALX

It’s not too late to enter the Click your WALX competition for the chance to win a branded T shirt. Simply Upload one of your walk pictures to social media and use #ClickYourWALX and tag us @WALXonTheChase to enter. Thank you to Julie Knowles, Julie Kaine and Emma for their entries! The competition closes on Wednesday 9thJune at 12pm, so be sure to enter before then. A winner will be selected and announced via social media on Saturday 12 June.

Slow ways

We are helping with the project ‘Slow ways’. An initiative to create a national network of walking routes connecting all of Great Britain’s towns and cities as well as thousands of villages. Some of the routes cross over Cannock Chase and we will be testing the walks and feeding back our findings. We are planning some early Sunday Morning walks to do them; they will be offered free to anyone wishing to join us. Please look out for them over the next couple of months. If you want to know more, please visit the Slow Ways website at https://beta.slowways.org/

A special thank you to Justin, Marilyn, Emma, Kate, Diana and Ruth for all getting involved in our Tuesday Testimonial series; go check it out on our website/social media. If you would like to get involved, please email us at walx@walxonthechase.co.uk,  we would love to hear from you!

Freedom Passports

As the new digital passports came into effect Congratulations to Carol, June, Anne, Lynn and Suzanne for gaining their Freedom Passports during May. We would also like to welcome Peter, who has has now joined us at WALX on The Chase.

We look forward to seeing you all out on WALX with us.

Bring a Friend for Free

We will be continuing the Bring a Friend for Free in June so if you have a friend who you think would benefit from or enjoy Nordic Walking but they are anxious about attending on their own, bring them along to one of our special open sessions. For anyone who would like to try, please get them to register and complete the Health Assessment and we can then get them registered for a walk.

16-Mile Challenge

We have had some of you contact us about attempting the 16-mile challenge on 18 September. If you are interested, but haven’t entered, then please let us know as soon as possible so that we can ensure you are getting the training you will need. We are also aware that 16 miles may be too much for some people, so we are offering the chance to complete the distance over 2 or 4 walks in the week leading up to the 18 September. With everyone completing the last 4 or 8 miles together.

Walk of the Month

May’s Walk of The Month was the Coffee and Cake WALX on Monday 10 May. We were blessed with a fabulous display of bluebells and the weather was kind too. Refreshments were provided by Canalside Café in Great Haywood and everyone loved their treats before the return walk along the Trent and Mersey canal. Check it out on our social media and website and let us know what your favourite walk of the month was!

Hope to see you all on the Chase soon.
