Hello!

We’re running a little (a lot) late this month!

It’s been a month of mixed weather and looks like it is set to continue that way so be prepared for all sorts and remember there’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong choice of clothes! We do keep our eyes on the forecast and will cancel walks in extreme conditions and where there are safety issues in getting to some of our start points. Forestry England also keep us notified of any closures due to poor weather. If you’re unsure, keep your eyes open for updates on social media, an email or text message.

Freedom Passports
September saw Colin, Paula, Sue, Carol, Nicki, Nikki, Joanne, Jane, Samantha, Addy and Debi complete their Power of Poles and gain their Freedom Passports.
We have already been joined by Colin, Paula, Sue, Carol, Nikki, Jane, Nicki and Joanne on some WALX and look forward to being joined by the rest of you soon.

Merchandise
There will be two more ‘Shop n Drop’s this year in November and December.
And don’t forget you can get discount through your WALX membership benefits for a range of outdoor clothing from Flanci https://www.flanciactivewear.co.uk and footwear from Grubs https://www.grubswarehouse.com/

WALX Membership
Remember your WALX membership offers you discount not just from the WALX shop. If you aren’t a member, take a look and see what other benefits are on offer. https://walx.co.uk/membership-benefits/

Socials
Our social media pages are continuing to grow with increasing numbers of followers but also the number of people that they ‘reach’ through sharing, particularly Facebook.
Please keep sharing, retweeting and tagging us into any of your social media posts!

Walk of the month
This month we have chosen the Purbeck Virtual Challenge which took place on the 18 September.
Anne, Emma, Lindsay, Mel and Suzanne took up the challenge supported by Ange and Joy for the first 8 miles and Sharon for the last 8 miles. The walk was split into 3 loops of 8, 4 and 4 miles with refreshment breaks in between and everyone who took part had been building up their stamina over the previous few months. We had amazing weather and everyone completed the challenge.

Six weeks Total Body WALX programme
September saw us launch our Step-temper offer. A six-week programme which includes a Getting Started with Poles session and unlimited WALX for 6 weeks plus 6 weeks membership to WALX for £29.00. We have extended the offer through October and it is open to new and current members who are not on a direct debit subscription. If you would like to take up the offer please let us know and we will work with you to achieve your initial goals.

Virtual Classes
During the first lockdown WALX introduced Virtual classes for anyone wishing to continue with their exercising in a familiar environment with other WALX enthusiasts. These are still running.
Anyone who is a member can join in and you book and pay as you would a face-to-face session. There are also virtual sessions with regards to nutrition; look out for the ‘Lunch with Lucie’ sessions on a Wednesday lunchtime. For monthly DD members and those of you on the 6-week programme, these are also included in your membership.

Longer Walk
The longer Sunday WALX culminated in the 16-mile Purbeck Virtual Challenge so our next Longer one will take place on 31 October and will be back down to 6 miles. We have a number of new members and it would be great to see some of you out on a longer walk. Fancy Dress and carrying a pumpkin is optional, but we will take advantage of refreshments at Grounds when we finish. Don’t worry about the walk being too strenuous we will keep it relatively flat and at a comfortable pace for everyone.

Ullswater Festival in May
In addition to the annual Purbeck WALX Festival there has previously been a rustic festival in Derbyshire. Next year however the Derbyshire festival is moving to the Lake District. Please use the following link if you would like to find out more https://walx.co.uk/groups/walx-ullswater-festival/. The festival is being held between 6 – 8 May 2022. If you would like to attend please look at accommodation options as soon as you can. This is a great opportunity to meet other WALX enthusiasts from around the country. There is also a Facebook page for you to interact with https://www.facebook.com/Ullswater-WALX-Festival-102232458893268

Children in Need Ramble
We appreciate that by the time you read this the Children in Need Ramble will have taken place but we will report in more detail next month!

Personal Details
Please can we ask that you all take a moment to check that your personal details in the system are correct and up to date including any next of kin information. It is important for us to be able to contact you if we need to update you on anything or if we need to contact your next of kin if there are any issues when we are out walking.

Hope to see you soon – keep walking!
