Walking Through Autumn and Winter – Are You Prepared?

As the days get shorter and the weather gets colder, should we really be putting our walking shoes away? Absolutely not! Autumn and winter can be wonderful times to get outdoors, enjoy the changing countryside and maintain our physical and mental wellbeing. At WALX South Lincs, we believe that with a little preparation and the right equipment, walking can be enjoyed throughout much of the year.

Choosing the right footwear and clothing can make all the difference. Comfortable walking shoes or boots with good grip and suitable support are particularly important on wet, muddy or uneven paths. Choose socks made from wool or moisture-wicking materials to help keep your feet warm and dry. A few lightweight layers, topped with a breathable waterproof jacket, will help you adjust to changing temperatures. And don’t forget a warm hat and gloves. You don’t need to spend a fortune on expensive outdoor clothing; it’s about finding what works for you, your walking and the conditions.

At WALX South Lincs, we’re about more than just walking. We’re here to help people feel confident, stay active and enjoy being outdoors, whatever their experience or ability. Whether you’re wondering which boots to buy, how to use walking poles, what clothing is suitable or simply how to get started, we’re always happy to share our knowledge and experience. You don’t have to be a member to ask us a question.
