Walking Well with Walx White Peak

“I’m Not Very Fit…”

Can I Still Join Walx White Peak?

The short answer? Yes.

In fact, many of the people who now walk with us first contacted us because they thought they weren’t fit enough.

If you’re wondering exactly the same thing, we’d like to reassure you from the very beginning.

You don’t need to get fit before you join.

Many people join because they want to become fitter.

There’s an important difference.

You’re probably not as far behind as you think

It’s easy to compare yourself with other people.

Perhaps you know someone who walks every weekend.

Maybe you have a friend who’s always out cycling or going to the gym.

Perhaps you’ve looked at photographs of walking groups and thought,

“Everyone looks so much fitter than me.”

The truth is, photographs rarely tell the whole story.

Most of our members started exactly where you are now.

Some hadn’t exercised regularly for years.

Others had recently retired and wanted a new routine.

Some had lost confidence after illness or injury.

Others simply wanted a reason to get outdoors more often.

They all had one thing in common.

They decided not to wait until they felt fitter.

They started where they were.

The biggest step isn’t the first walk

It’s making the decision to come.

We honestly believe that’s the hardest part.

Once you’ve taken that step, everything becomes much easier.

You’ll discover friendly faces.

Encouragement rather than competition.

People who remember what it felt like to be new.

You’ll quickly realise nobody is judging you.

Everyone is simply pleased you’ve come along.

We don’t expect you to keep up

This is something we’d really like every new member to understand.

Our walks aren’t about proving how fast you can go.

They’re about enjoying being active together.

We walk as a group.

We look after one another.

We stop when it’s appropriate.

We enjoy the scenery.

We chat.

Sometimes we laugh more than we walk.

That’s perfectly fine with us.

Our aim isn’t to tire people out.

Our aim is to send people home feeling better than when they arrived.

Confidence grows surprisingly quickly

We’ve seen it happen many times.

Someone arrives quietly, unsure whether they’ll manage.

They spend the first few minutes wondering whether everyone else is more experienced.

Then something changes.

They realise they’re not expected to be perfect.

They discover they’re surrounded by kind, encouraging people.

They begin chatting.

They relax.

By the end of the session they’re smiling.

Not because they’ve suddenly become fitter.

Because they’ve realised they belong.

Fitness comes later

This might sound unusual coming from a walking business.

But we don’t think fitness should be your first goal.

Enjoyment should.

Because when people enjoy something, they naturally do it more often.

Walking becomes part of the week rather than something that has to be forced into it.

That’s where fitness begins to improve.

Not through one particularly energetic walk.

But through dozens of enjoyable walks over many months.

At Walx White Peak we believe consistency matters far more than intensity.

Why everyone starts with ‘Power of Poles’

If you’re completely new to Nordic Walking, you’ll begin with our Power of Poles session.

It’s designed especially for beginners.

Nobody arrives knowing what they’re doing.

That’s exactly why the session exists.

We’ll provide the poles.

We’ll teach the basics.

You’ll meet other newcomers.

Most people leave saying exactly the same thing.

“That was much easier than I expected.”

It’s a relaxed introduction that gives everyone the confidence to join regular walks knowing they’re starting on the same footing as everyone else.

Small groups make a big difference

One of the things our members value most is the atmosphere.

We keep our groups deliberately small because it allows us to know everyone personally.

You’re never just another name on a booking list.

We notice when you’ve had a good week.

We notice if you’ve been away.

We celebrate your progress.

And because the groups are small, conversations happen naturally.

That’s one of the reasons so many friendships begin on our walks.

The Walxwhitepeak Perspective

If we could remove one worry from every new member’s mind, it would be this.

Please don’t spend weeks trying to become fit enough before joining us.

We’ve seen people do exactly that.

Then, when they finally come along, they tell us,

“I wish I’d done this months ago.”

We’d much rather help you begin where you are today than hear about the months you spent worrying.

Nobody expects perfection.

We simply hope you’ll give yourself the opportunity to discover what you’re capable of.

Could this be the right time?

Only you can answer that.

But if you’ve been thinking for a while that you’d like to become more active…

If you’ve been waiting until you felt fitter…

If you’ve been wondering whether you’d fit in…

Perhaps this is your sign to stop wondering.

Come and meet us.

Bring your questions.

Bring your curiosity.

We’ll take care of the rest.

Your first step

Book a Power of Poles session.

Meet us.

Meet other beginners.

Discover that Nordic Walking is much easier—and much more enjoyable—than you imagined.

You don’t need to prove anything.

You simply need to take the first step.

We’ll walk the rest of the journey together.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I’m the slowest?

You’re very unlikely to be. Even if you are, it genuinely doesn’t matter. Our walks are about enjoying the experience together, not racing from start to finish.

I’m nervous about coming on my own.

Many of our members came on their own for their first session. You’ll receive a warm welcome, and you’ll quickly discover that everyone was new once.

What if I can’t remember the technique?

That’s exactly why we start with Power of Poles. We’ll help you learn the basics in a relaxed environment before you join regular walks.

Fit enough to enjoy a gentle walk and willing to learn. From there, we’ll help you build your confidence and fitness gradually.
