Walking Well with Walx White Peak What Happens at Your First Session? Everything You Can Expect – Before You Even Arrive Feeling a little nervous is perfectly normal. We hope this guide helps you arrive feeling excited instead. Let’s start with a confession… Almost everyone who comes to their first Walx White Peak session tells us afterwards: “I needn’t have worried.” Some admit they nearly cancelled. Others tell us they sat in the car wondering whether to get out. A few confess they almost turned around and drove home. If that surprises you, it shouldn’t. Trying anything new takes a little courage. Meeting new people can feel daunting. Walking into an unfamiliar group can feel even more so. The good news is that those nerves rarely last very long. Before you arrive Once you’ve booked your first session, we’ll send you all the information you need. You’ll know:
where to meet
what time to arrive
what to wear
what to bring
and anything else you need to know before setting off.
If you’ve booked a Power of Poles session, there’s no need to buy poles beforehand. We’ll provide everything you need. Just come dressed for the weather, wearing comfortable walking shoes or trainers, and bring a smile. We’ll take care of the rest. Your first welcome One of the first things you’ll notice is that someone comes over to say hello. That’s important to us. You’re not left wondering who to speak to. You’re not expected to introduce yourself to everyone. We’ll greet you, introduce ourselves and make sure you feel comfortable before anything else happens. We’ll probably ask how you found us. We’ll answer any last-minute questions. We’ll introduce you to a few other people. Within a few minutes, you’ll usually discover something reassuring. Everyone remembers their own first session. “I thought everyone would know each other…” Some people do. Many don’t. Like any friendly community, there are familiar faces and newer faces. The lovely thing is that people remember what it felt like to be the newcomer. That’s why new members are usually welcomed so warmly. You’ll quickly find conversations starting naturally. Where are you from? Have you walked locally before? What made you decide to come along? Before long, those conversations continue while you’re out walking. If your first session is Power of Poles This is where your Nordic Walking journey begins. Power of Poles isn’t a test. It’s a relaxed introduction designed specifically for beginners. Nobody expects you to know the technique. That’s exactly why the session exists. We’ll explain how the poles work. We’ll show you the basic movements. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to practise. We’ll take things one step at a time. There is absolutely no rush. People are often surprised by how quickly the movements begin to feel natural. There are usually a few laughs along the way too. Learning something new should be enjoyable. If you’re joining a Discovery Session Some people prefer to experience Walx White Peak before deciding whether Nordic Walking is for them. That’s exactly why our Discovery Sessions exist. You’ll experience the atmosphere that makes Walx White Peak special. You’ll meet the people. You’ll enjoy being outdoors. You’ll discover how welcoming the group is. If you decide Nordic Walking is the next step, you’ll then be invited to join a Power of Poles session before becoming part of our regular Nordic Walking programme. That way, everyone begins with the same confidence and understanding. We don’t leave people behind One concern we hear regularly is: “What happens if I can’t keep up?” The honest answer? We don’t expect you to. Our walks aren’t about proving yourself. They’re about enjoying being active together. Everyone walks at a pace that’s appropriate for the group. If someone needs to pause for a moment, that’s absolutely fine. We’re out to enjoy ourselves, not set records. You don’t need to remember everything Another common worry is remembering the Nordic Walking technique. Please don’t let that concern stop you. Nobody expects perfection after one session. Learning happens gradually. The more you walk, the more natural the movements become. We’ll continue encouraging and helping you as your confidence grows. Even experienced walkers are always refining little things. That’s part of the enjoyment. At the end of the walk You’ll probably leave feeling rather different from when you arrived. Not because you’ve suddenly become an expert Nordic Walker. But because the unknown has disappeared. You’ll know people’s names. You’ll know what the sessions are like. You’ll know what to expect next time. Most importantly, you’ll know whether Walx White Peak feels right for you. There’s no pressure. No obligation. Just the opportunity to decide whether you’d like to come again. The Walx White Peak Perspective One of our favourite moments is watching the change that happens during a first session. Someone arrives understandably quiet. Perhaps a little unsure. An hour or so later they’re chatting happily, laughing with other walkers and asking when the next walk is. That transformation has very little to do with poles. It has everything to do with feeling welcomed. That’s something we’ll never lose sight of. What happens next? If you’ve attended a Power of Poles session and enjoyed it, you’ll be ready to join our regular Nordic Walking walks. If you’ve come to a Discovery Session, we’ll chat about whether Nordic Walking is the right next step for you. Either way, there’s no pressure. Only encouragement. We’ll help you choose the sessions that suit you best and answer any questions you still have. From there, your journey is entirely your own. We’ll simply be delighted to walk alongside you. Frequently Asked Questions What if I arrive early? That’s absolutely fine. It often gives us a little extra time to chat before the session begins. What if I’m late? If you think you’re going to be delayed, let us know if you can. We’ll advise you on the best course of action. Will I be expected to talk to everyone? Not at all. Conversations happen naturally, and there’s no pressure. Most people quickly find themselves chatting without even thinking about it. Can I bring a friend? Of course. Many people come with a friend or partner, although plenty arrive on their own too. What if I decide it’s not for me? That’s perfectly okay. We’d rather you came along, experienced it properly and made your own decision than always wondered what it might have been like. Your next step If you’ve been wondering what your first session might be like, we hope this guide has answered your questions. The hardest part is often deciding to come. After that, we’ll do everything we can to make sure you feel welcome, supported and encouraged from the moment you arrive. We’d love to meet you and help you discover why so many people say: “I wish I’d done this sooner.”
