July has been a busy month for the team at WALX HQ

Not only have they delivered courses in Watford and York as part of the UK roll out of their total body walking Instructor training but they have secured another European partner and agreed terms to launch in East Asia too.

The WALX concept is simple but effective and involves training enthusiastic Instructors to help people master the art of walking well, using unique WALX poles and incorporating simple elements such as strength and balance into their daily lives.

Training starts with the Instructors mastering the basics themselves as it is vital that they can motivate others to harness the power of walking based exercise. Via a mix of online theory and practical courses, the Instructors are then taught how to help others enjoy being active outdoors. The WALX network includes Physios, Physical activity promoters, personal trainers and individuals from a range of backgrounds – all who want to pass on the joy of safe effective exercise.

WALX believe that it is the passion and personality of their Instructors which matters most and they have modules which enable them to provide the skills and knowledge required.

Now in a format that can be delivered in any language and yet retain the essential standards and ethos of the WALX team ( who have backgrounds in exercise referral, physical activity promotion and outdoor exercise delivery) the training is proving popular in Italy where it was launched in March and the first Instructor training course  in Spain and Asia will be held in the Autumn.

A team of Master Trainers are being trained to help with the expansion both in the UK and abroad. All Instructors themselves with experience in direct delivery to the public, they are proof that there is a need for safe supportive exercise in social groups. All offer several sessions a week on the WALX portal which has over 1,000 lead walks a week in the UK alone. They are now ready to help others be part of this exciting and reward concept.

Martin Christie from WALX explains

“As other countries approach us about our unique poles and simple teaching methods, we have a process where we can train their first tranche of Instructors plus a Master trainer team to continue the roll out. Meanwhile here in the UK we are training individuals, community projects and rehabilitation specialists in a bid to create a joined up network of people committed to helping people find affordable, enjoyable and effective walking based exercise.”

WALX also deliver bespoke modules for organisations and clinics who would like be part of the network.

“Not all can offer several  weekly walks but might be in a position to help get people onto poles and then signpost to a lively sociable group” says Martin.
