Four day mountain experience in Southern Snowdonia – July 4th – 9th

Ken Hames OBE joins Sam for this mountain experience which includes scrambling skills and unforgettable adventures. The mountainous region of south Snowdonia offers several iconic peaks that for many are ‘unknown’ and more often than not, are bypassed in favour of the Snowdon range and its subsidiaries. So, these adventures offer new horizons and perspectives and will, over the four days encapsulate new skills and challenges. History and legend abound in these magical locations.

Aran Fawddwy (via Cwm Cywarch):

  • At an impressive 905 meters, Aran Fawddwy offers a less-crowded yet equally dramatic alternative to some of Snowdonia’s busier peaks. It is a mere 30 feet short of being one of the Welsh 3000’s and is the highest peak in Britain south of Snowdon.
  • This route takes you through the peaceful Cwm Cywarch valley often billed as the most beautiful in North Wales. It is surrounded by rugged cliffs and cascading streams leading to open country and the ascent that is both challenging and rewarding. Weather permitting the route offers panoramic views of Snowdonia and the surrounding countryside, perfect for those seeking isolation from the crows and a connection with nature.

Arenig Fawr:

  • Standing at 854 meters, Arenig Fawr is a hidden gem in the southern region of Snowdonia.
  • The trail begins with a gradual incline before steepening, with dramatic views of Llyn.
  • Arenig Fawr below and the distant peaks of Snowdonia in the distance. The remote feel of this mountain makes it a favourite for seasoned walkers looking to escape the crowds.

Rhinog Fawr and Rhinog Fach:

  • These rugged peaks offer a thrilling combination of hiking and scrambling. Today we can practise our scrambling skills under the supervision of the highly experienced Ken Hames supported by Sam Armstrong.

Rhinog Fawr:

  • At 720 meters, presents rocky paths and breathtaking vistas of thesurrounding Rhinogydd range.
  • A scramble up Rhinog Fach adds to the adventure, providing a true test of skill and stamina.
  • This route is ideal for those who enjoy a more technical challenge with dramatic scenery.

Optional – Cadair Idris:

  • At 893 meters, Cadair Idris (Chair of Arthur) is one of Snowdonia’s most iconic peaks.
  • The ascent, often described as a rite of passage for walkers in Wales, can be tackled via the Minffordd Path, which offers a steep but stunning climb through forested trails and past glittering mountain lakes.
  • The summit rewards you with unforgettable views over the Mawddach Estuary and beyond.
  • It is a long and demanding climb the differential between start and finish being over 2000 feet.

Accommodation:

A range of accommodation is available in Dolgellau, one of the most beautiful places in Snowdonia where we have selected some hotels and Villas for you to choose form – you can even just join us for the weekend if 4 days is too much – just get in touch.

Six-Day Walking Adventure in County Kerry IRELAND September 5th – 12th, 2025

Join Mountain Guides Sean and Sam on this amazing trip – County Kerry continues to shine as a beacon of natural beauty and cultural richness in Ireland. Known as “The Kingdom,” Kerry captivates with its stunning landscapes and proud local identity. Glenbeigh, nestled on the Iveragh Peninsula, serves as a perfect base for exploring the county’s dramatic scenery.
This charming village is ideally positioned for discovering the towering peaks of the McGillycuddy’sReeks, including Carrauntoohil, Ireland’s highest mountain, as well as the peninsula’s pristinebeaches where the Atlantic waves crash ashore.

Whether you prefer lowland walks or high mountain treks, there is no shortage of trails.

Alongside these adventures, you can enjoy the warm, welcoming atmosphere of local pubs, sipping a pint of Guinness or an Irish coffee while experiencing the legendary Irish hospitality. Kerry’s unique charm and breathtaking vistas make it a must-visit destination for any traveller.

Hiking Menu:

  • Curragh Loop: Approx. 8km, climbing the small but perfectly formed Curragh Hill overlooking the village and Dingle Bay. There is a high-level option and a lower-level option, which regroup at the same point at Rossbeigh Beach
  • Carrauntoohil: The big one! For those seeking a challenge, this 13km route starts at Kate Kearney’s Cottage and ascends the McGillycuddy Mountain range, leading to the highest point, Carrauntoohil. The McGillyCuddy range is glacially formed, rocky, and distinct from the rest of Ireland, much like how the Lake District differs from most of England.
  • Glacial Lake Option: A gentler 8km option that circumnavigates one of the glacial lakes beneath the peaks. This route is less strenuous but equally dramatic.
  • Glenbeigh to Glencar Point-to-Point: A 13km point-to-point route crossing an old mountain pass, descending into Glencar Valley, crossing the picturesque Blackstone’s Bridge, and finishing at the Climbers Arms, a unique and charming establishment.
  • Carragh View: A 6km hill and lowland walk through Carragh Woods overlooking Lough Carragh, finishing at Ard Na Sidhe Country House for afternoon tea.
  • Knocknadobar Pilgrim’s Path: This 11km route climbs Knocknadobar Mountain (a modest peak). This ancient sacred pilgrimage route dates back to prehistoric times and was later adapted by Christians, with 14 stations of the cross added along the trail. At the summit, a large Celtic cross and altar mark the spot where mass is still celebrated yearly.
