This year our mini festival teams in the Peaks and Lakes are taking a break so we are now working on the PURBECK event in DORSET which is a week long event with day passes enabling walkers to choose to join us for one day, the weekend or all week. Walks will be all over Dorset with days carefully planned so you can take in the stunning County at your leisure by booking walks in similar locations to avoid too much travel.
Each day has a pass price to cover the registration, administration and infrastructure and the holder can then choose up to 3 walks or workshops a day at circa £8 – £10 according to the activity on offer ( Some may be more and will include food or additional activities)
Walks include old favourites like Old Harry Rocks, Cerne Abbas Giant , Cider Farm experience and the odd Dorset Cream Tea of course! We visit attractions like Durdle Door, The Abbotsbury tropical gardens, Chesil beach and of course the geological wonders of the Jurassic coast where the giant Pliosaur fossil featured on the BBC was extracted from the cliffs. The festival format means you can enjoy spectacular walks led by people who know the history, landscape and legends but also take time to enjoy the rest of what the area has to offer too. Golden beaches, rocky coves, the RSPB reserve at Arne where Sea Eagles soar (where Springwatch was filmed) and the chance to explore the countryside that still feels like you are in a Thomas Hardy novel!
We have a NEW HUB for the weekend with outdoor and indoor space where we will be hosting workshops suitable for all levels, specialist presentations and of course the Supper night and Band (Saturday 14th )
Once again we have our legendary Band the Transitions booked in and ready to ensure that even those with the tiredest legs will not be able to resist a shimmy or two!
There is also a 17 mile touch challenge event for those who fancy testing themselves over not only the distance but the rugged terrain of the Jurassic Coast and Isle of Purbeck . Unlike other similar events, our team support you all the way with experienced walkers en route, water stations and a big welcome ( plus medal at the end of course)
There are Practical workshops and presentations for all levels from an audience with menopause specialist Nigel Denby to bushcraft and ‘expedition’ advice from Ken Hames . The WALX HQ experts will be on hand to improve your nordic walking technique, help you navigate stiles, enjoy yoga walks and learn the latest ways to workout as you walk.
Our foragers will be demonstrating how simple it is to make delicious hedgerow teas and our forest bathing specialists will be offering a therapy walk, deep into an ancient Forest.
The schedule of walks is beginning to take shape and once complete ( usually by July) we open up the bookings to those with passes. Those who book passes first – get invited in to book first.
If this event takes your fancy HURRY as Day Passes will be increasing in price to £12 in July
