If you want to expand your horizons, explore new areas and enjoy a host of professionally lead walks in a stunning location, a WALX festival or break could be just what you are looking for

Last weekend, two of our WALX groups got together to organise a fantastic  weekend of walking in the Lake District. Walkers enjoyed a choice of mountain and lowland fell routes including the ascent of Helvellyn which was voted Britains best walk by ITV viewers.!

Sam and Nics (the organisers) are both qualified Mountain Leaders so along with an army of other leaders, they put on a schedule that included the tougher all day mountain walks, steamer trips with walks back along the shores of Ullswater, Geology and flora walks and more. There were presentations, social meals and a memorable cèilidh  on the Saturday evening.

Our generous friends from GRUBs boots were on hand with a free technical base layer top for all attendees and other offers included free Raspberry and beetroot bars from VOOM  an offer on FLANCI clothing plus discounts on books by the legendary fell runner Joss Naylor . A raffle was held for his charity the Brathay Trust

Festival goers told us that the sense of achievement gained from tackling tougher terrain than they were used to left them ‘buzzing’ and this group even went into Glenridding to get their Helvellyn T shirts!

It’s the WALX way to combine walking with fun, good food and the opportunity to learn something new. Our next big Festival weekend is in Purbeck, Dorset in September and there will be at least 50 walks a day plus workshops and presentations. Come and join us, get a festival pass and you can enjoy 3 or more activities a day. We also have a brilliant band booked for the Saturday night at the hub which sits below the amazing Corfe Castle. Themed walks include Cider farms, Paella on the beach, an RSPB reserve, Clifftop trails and even two distance challenges. See HERE for more info and too book

If that’s all too much for you, the HQ team and local WALX Dorset group also offer short breaks where everything is included (including accommodation) and guided walks are tailored to suit the group. In April a group experienced all of the local iconic walks including Studland Bay, Old Harry rocks, Durdle Door and the Blue pool. The next break is all about wellness with plenty of Yoga, Connecting with nature and enjoying the tranquility of secluded bays. Find out more HERE

Ros who joined us in April said

The April walking break in Dorset was a big success – we were warmly welcomed by the HQ staff and very well looked after throughout our stay.  They were receptive to our needs and willing to accommodate our preferences to the programme, adding extra walks and arranging for us to join local groups. Everyone was friendly and welcoming and we were blessed with beautiful Spring sunshine and flowers, and blown away by the beautiful, iconic Dorset views.  The various opportunities to reward our daily efforts with delicious food and drink in the evenings proved a bonus!  Don’t hesitate to book yourself on one of these breaks – you won’t regret it!

One thing you can be sure of is a friendly WALX welcome, professional leaders and the assurance that you will be able to select walks at the right level for YOU. Our festivals and breaks are perfect for groups, couples and single walkers. If you have any questions or would like more information call us on 0333 1234 540.

Dates for future Helvellyn & Ullswater and Peak District festivals will be released soon.
