Winter never deters our groups from walking together, going on trips or even raising money for charity

Here is a brief round up of some of the activities around the UK this January and February. As the days lengthen and the sun brings some warmth, they will be glad they kept their activity levels up and di not retreat indoors!

Watford Nordic walking held a tough hill climb challenge to raise money for their chosen charity Mind over Mountains and it was certainly a good way to stay warm!

They managed a total of 94 hills repetitions and certainly deserved their reward of coffee and cakes at the end! They raised a whopping £690 with more coming too! Well done to Instructor Tracy and her team of Instructors. leaders and walkers.

Its great to see walkers using their love of being active outdoors to help others

WALX Easter Ross in the wonderful Scottish highland made the most of a sparkling day and blue skies and as one of our most northerly groups, they are proof that as long as you wear the right coat and hat – the great outdoors is there to enjoy!

Like many groups, they have endured the odd storm and a mixed bag of weather this winter but are determined to keep exploring with their poles.

Meanwhile this intrepid bunch from WALX  Dorset – put their total body  walking training to good use on a 4 day snowshoeing trip in the Alps. They spent the first day acclimitising, mastering the snow and snowshoes before enjoying the hospitality in a friendly Alpine Hotel. The following day they put the practice to good use on a fantastic climb to a mountain refuge. All agreed their pre trip training with Instructor Lucie had been worth it. After a cosy night in the mountains they walked down through tranquil Forests  – If you want to join them in 2026 – click HERE

On the South Coast , WALX Coast and Country enjoyed a bird watching walk at the RSPB Pulborough Brooks reserve

Colin Holloway took lots of lovely photos and the walkers reported that the birds seemed to be in good spirits and getting ready for spring! We are sure the walkers will be back to enjoy the Dawn Chorus in April and May! Watch this space.

Another great way to create an unforgettable winter walk is to get together with other local groups and that’s exactly what WALX Ver Valley and WALX 4 Rivers  did recently when they joined forces for a stunning route around the famous Knebworth House followed by Lunch at the Lytton Arms!

Even better as those who pay via DD often get one free walk a month with neighbouring groups!

Nordic  Walking Brockenhurst who are based in the stunning New Forest national Park enjoyed a special walk to the historic Hurst Castle for some of the best views the Solent. This amazing artillery fortress built by Henry VIII on the end of a coastal spit was built in 1544 and is steeped in centuries of military history.

Look like its a great spot for a lunch break too!

Let us know what adventures your group have in the next month and we will feature it in next months round up.
