HOW ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY ARE YOUR POLES?

At WALX we are passionate about helping people to be more physically active via walking-based programmes and harnessing the power of nature with every step.

To that end, we are equally passionate about protecting the amazing planet that gives us the wonderful flora, fauna and landscapes that enhance the experiences we provide.

We also manufacture and distribute a LOT of fitness and Nordic walking poles.

Here are some of the measures we have implemented to minimise our impact on the environment here at WALX HQ……

·      REDUCING THE USE OF CARBON – Whilst we appreciate that Carbon has long been popular amongst Nordic walkers in particular, we feel that the fact it is not recyclable is a major negative. These days there are high quality aircraft standard alloys which provide a similar feel when planting poles into the ground and we prefer to use these for our walking pole range. We all use them on a daily basis too.

·      AVOIDING PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED IN THE FAR EAST – We primarily work with Italian Manufacturer FIZAN POLES who use high quality alloys which are fabricated in Italy. This reduces the carbon footprint of all pole stock deliveries to the UK.

·      MINIMISING COURIERS BY COMBINING DELIVERIES – Our shop n drop scheme not only reduces postage charges for walkers in our groups, it also means we only send ONE parcel rather than several. By sending one box to the local Instructor, we can cut down on delivery trips and packaging. It also means that Instructors are able to help walkers set new poles up correctly.

·      EXPLORING ECO MATERIALS – Our design team are constantly working to explore the use of planet friendly materials for our WALX handles and accessories. We are currently in discussion with universities about the use of wool, flax and hemp – watch this space!

·      RECYCLING PACKAGING – Wherever possible we use recycled cardboard, paper-based tape with eco inks and if we can, re use all packaging (again and again) to minimise waste.

·      WE WORK WITH LIKE MINDED PARTNERS – From local printers to small businesses who make hand made products, we choose carefully who we work with.

·      WE MEET ONLINE RATHER THAN TRAVEL – As much as we hate being inside at a desk, we know that whilst travelling to meet people in person is nicer than via screens, unless we can walk or cycle, we opt for the latter.

So, when choosing your next pair of walking poles, take a second to ask what they are made with and where they come from. Let’s make every step we take a positive one for both our health and the planet – reduce your carbon footprints with WALX.
